When a painting goes sour, seriously sour, I try to make the most of it. One such painting wasn't going very well. I had to make some drastic changes by throwing on more gesso and glazing it with dark indigo paint.
I then added ripped paper, iridescent mica, splattered white gouache, and glammed it up with glitter pen!
Can you believe this started out as a tranquil barnyard scene? LOL. Jellyfishes to the rescue!

What a stunning world we live in. There's an "ocean" of inspiration out there AND many ways to cover-up mistakes! Thank you Mother Nature :).

Okay, this is just too bizarre. I had a very very similar experience this summer when my project that started out as watercolor turnips ended up being jellyfish!
What makes this story even more strange to me is that you've been on my mind a lot lately. I have developed "rat fever" and am considering adopting two little boys and suddenly remembered watching videos of Autumn and Summer years ago when I was following your blog on a regular basis.
You've had a baby! Congratulatinons Gina(and Jim)! He's beautiful. Do you still have rats? I read about the passing of Autumn and felt your loss. What about Summer? Is she still with you? Their short life spans is one of the things holding me back from getting them...

Wow. what a great save. I love posts about making the most out of a mistake. It shows me that anything is possible and don't toss it out just because it's not going as planned. It can turn into something completely different.
